FAD OR FAITH, By Elaine Powers

I get so stirred up when someone sends me the latest “fad” for staying young and healthy, that miracle herb or thing for renewed youth and longevity. It reminds me of those quests for the Fountain of Youth that I used to read about in history classes. It was never found! What is it now? Ginger? Tumeric? Are they still promoting apple cider vinegar? Please understand that I am NOT against these things or anything else that you do to stay healthy and feel better. God knows that we, especially in America, need a healthier diet and lifestyle. God wants us to be wise, eat better, and take care of the temple (our own body) of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6: 19-20). I am ALL for that. What I am NOT for is putting our faith in these things. God will not tolerate that in His children. He is a jealous God and will have no other idols before Him (Exodus 20:3-5). Our only dependency will be on Him. Our only hope for a long and prosperous life will be in Him. Our total soundness of mind and body will be in Him, through His Word.

“What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20

Glorify God in your body AND in your spirit…Does the Spirit in you testify of God when you do these things for your body? Or are you going with the latest fad that’s out there out of fear of getting old or sick? The question is: Where is your faith?

Many years ago, I, too, went on a quest to stay young and healthy. I purchased hundreds of dollars in skin care products to stay looking young, to fight the “spots and wrinkles.” It was megavitamins back then so I tried them, too. The vitamins made my stomach sick no matter what kind I tried, and I never felt any better. The skin care products never made one bit of difference in the way I looked, and I got old anyway. The Lord Himself rebuked me. He said, “Elaine, stop wasting your time and money. I WILL KEEP YOU YOUNG.”

So I put my faith completely in Him.

Don’t be taken captive by the fads and fears of this world. Psalm 46: 1-5 says:

“Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast.

They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity.

Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:

And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs (gray hairs) will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.

To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?”

Our idols are a burden to our souls, not freedom. Don’t misunderstand. I try to eat right. I take a vitamin once in awhile if I think I need it. I wear make-up from Wal-Mart. I drink protein drinks.  All that makes me FEEL better, but my faith is NOT in that. There is no condemnation in using things, but true healing, true deliverance, comes through living in the Truth of the Word of God and obedience to Him. HE keeps me young and healthy and prosperous. I refuse sickness of the mind and body even at the age of 65 because the Word says that BY HIS STRIPES I AM HEALED. The Word says, “I have not given you a spirit of fear, but of power, and love and a SOUND MIND” (2 Timothy 1:7). He showed me that we do have to get old, but we don’t have to be sick in mind or body. I have to look in the mirror to remember how old I really am because I feel so good.

The true healing balm comes from dying and deliverance through the Cross of Jesus Christ. Let Him root out the bitterness, offense, unforgiveness, and doubt, all those things in your heart and mind that are robbing your peace and joy and making you sick, and you will feel good, too. Let Him break and deliver you from those generational curses and things that have plagued you for so long. He has kept me young. No medications, almost 20 mission trips with all the “youngsters,” and joy and peace in the inner man--- this is for you, too. He is no respecter of persons (or age).

Psalm 121 says this:

I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand.

The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.

The Lord shall preserve us…What better preservative than the Word of God? “And the peace of God, which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7).

God has taught me that many of the things going on in our minds and hearts affect the health of our bodies, and in fact, cause symptoms of illness to manifest. For example, whenever I have resentment in my heart, I may get cold symptoms or aches and pains in my body like arthritis. Unforgiveness and pride in my heart can cause insomnia and torment to my mind. Got anger? Probably your back bothers you.  I have to be ever vigilant to guard my mind and heart so that my body stays healthy, ever vigilant to bring every thought captive to the Word of God, ever vigilant to go to the Cross and let that sin die daily. A mind on Christ means a healthy mind, and that means a healthy body. He has healed me from the inside out. That is where the healing begins: Inside! A mind stayed (focused) on Him is at peace.

“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3

Our faith heals us just like the woman with the issue of blood:

“And he said to her, Daughter, they faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.” Mark 5:34

Go in peace…

BE WHOLE OF THY PLAGUE…What is plaguing you today? Your faith will heal you, too! Are you seeing it? It is faith in Him that gives you peace, keeps you whole, makes you well and sound (prosperous). It is faith in Him that keeps us YOUNG. Faith in Him gives us the peace that passes all understanding that keeps our hearts and minds stable, whole, and healthy (Philippians 4:7). Truth! Stop believing the lie that you cannot be well. Stop believing the lie that there is a miracle cure out there other than Jesus Christ!

3 John 1: 2-4 says:

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

We must walk in the Truth- the Word of God. “Cast ALL your cares (even getting old) on Him for He sustains you. He will never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22

Sustain:

~to keep from falling, support, as a foundation

            ~to aid, comfort, and relieve

~to maintain, keep alive, nourish, as provisions to an army

This is a promise. He promises to sustain us. We are the army of God marching into these end times with all the provisions we need freely given from Him, no matter our age or function in the body of Christ.

God does not want us to be unaware of what we are doing and the ways of the devil. He is saying, “Know Me. Know My ways” (2 Corinthians 2:11). Organic food is a fad. It may be good for you, but it will not sustain or save your life. Only Jesus is the Life. Yoga is a fad that has open doors into the demonic. Only Jesus is the Way. Halloween and other holidays from paganism are rituals that honor Satan. Only Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6) All FADS. All counter to FAITH.

Fad or faith? What’s it going to be?

Only Jesus…

Love in Him,

Elaine
